7:16pm — Flood Warning for Clay County: Observed flooding increased from minor to moderate severity. The flood warning continues for the little platte river at smithville until late Saturday night, or until the warning is cancelled. At 6:30 pm Friday the stage was 30.7 feet. Moderate flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 27.0 feet. Forecast, the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by early Saturday morning. At 30.5 feet, bridge street, main street, state route dd, and state route f begin to flood.

6:46pm — From KDOT:
K-74 is closed one mile east of the city of Potter for approximately 2 miles in Atchison County due to flooding. No marked detour will be available.
K-87 is closed north of the city of Lietz for approximately 1 mile in Marshall County due to flooding. No marked detour will be available.
6:43pm — In Orrick: 2 homes flooded and a gas station is surrounded by high water, near Highway 210 and Brashears Road.
6:40pm — At 9132 McGee in KCMO — tree fell on a house, wires down.
6:30pm — According to MODOT:
State Route E in Platte County is now closed due to flooding.
State Route JJ in Clay County is now closed due to flooding.
6:27pm — Bryan Busby says the tornado threat is diminishing. The concern continues to be hail, heavy rain and flooding.
6:21pm — From Toby Cook with Royals: We have NOT called the game tonight. There will likely be a delay, but we don’t have a projection yet on when we get started.
6:15pm — KCP&L Update:
Jackson County- 697 w/o power. High w/o power was 1247.
Platte County- 520 w/o power. High w/o power was 881.
Clay County- 551 w/o power. High w/o power was 1171.
That’s more than 1,750 still w/o power.
6:07 pm — Situation is improving at KCI Airport. Most flights are delayed but people are starting to move and board planes. Most flights should be back up and running by 7:30pm.
6:01pm — Parts of metro area still under tornado watch box until 10pm.
Royals fans, take heed — heavy downpour at Kauffman Stadium.
Power outages reported in Lawrence, along with penny-sized hail.
6pm — Busby says 1 inch hail reported near Lee’s Summit.
5:50pm – Severe thunderstorm warning for: central johnson county in east central Kansas, Until 615 pm cdt.
At 545 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail. This storm was located 6 miles southeast of eudora, or 7 miles northwest of gardner, and moving east at 30 mph.
The severe thunderstorm will be near, gardner around 555 pm cdt. Olathe around 605 pm cdt. Lenexa around 615 pm cdt.
5:44 pm - Jackson County now reporting power outages- 810 without power. Clay County – 192 without power. Platte County- 618 without power.
All of Jackson County numbers are in the northeast part of the county — north of I-70 and east of Highway 291.
5:37pm — Severe thunderstorm warning for: east central jackson county in west central Missouri, west central lafayette county in west central Missouri, Until 600 pm cdt.
At 536 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar and spotters indicated a severe thunderstorm producing quarter size hail. This storm was located near grain valley, and moving east at 30 mph.
The severe thunderstorm will be near, oak grove around 545 pm cdt. Odessa around 600 pm cdt.
Other locations impacted by this severe thunderstorm include bates city.
5:24pm — severe thunderstorm warning for: northeastern johnson county in east central Kansas, southeastern wyandotte county in northeast Kansas, southwestern clay county in west central Missouri, northern jackson county in west central Missouri, Until 545 pm cdt.
5:17pm — Heavy rain at KMBC-TV studios.
5:15pm — Numerous flight delays reported at Kansas City Int’l Airport.

5:13pm — 3 to 5 inches of rainfall reported across much of the Northland.
5:05pm — Excelsior Springs has cancelled tonight’s graduation ceremony scheduled for 7pm in the high school gym. High water has closed several roads in the area and some buses have not been able to return to the garage because of the high water. According to the assistant superintendent “it’s a mess.”
The graduation ceremony has been rescheduled for Saturday night at 7pm in the high school gym.
4:59pm — Flash Flood warning for: caldwell county in north central Missouri, clay county in west central Missouri, clinton county in northwest Missouri, northern leavenworth county in northeast Kansas, northern ray county in west central Missouri, platte county in west central Missouri, southern atchison county in northeast Kansas, southern buchanan county in northwest Missouri, Until 1000 pm cdt At 453 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated that the heaviest thunderstorms have moved south of the warning area, however excessive runoff will continue. Radar estimates indicate that much of the area has received between 2 and 4 inches of rain. Spotters have also reported widespread 2 to 4 inch amounts and numerous areas within the warning are experiencing flooding.
Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include, atchison, cameron, excelsior springs, gower, kearney, lansing, lathrop, lawson, leavenworth, nortonville, platte city, plattsburg, smithville, weatherby lake, weston, braymer, camden point, cowgill, crystal lakes, dearborn, easton, edgerton, effingham, excelsior estates, ferrelview, holt, kingston, polo, tracy and trimble.
4:57pm — School bus reported stuck in high water at NW 88th Street, which is just north of Metro North Mall. Firefighters said no one in danger.
4:55pm – Slightly less than quarter-sized hail reported in Lawrence, Kan.
4:54pm — KCP&L update: 440 customers in Platte County remain without power. That’s down from a high of 676.
4:48p –Severe thunderstorm warning issued until 5:15pm for: Northwestern Johnson County In East Central Kansas, Southern Leavenworth County In Northeast Kansas, Southwestern Wyandotte County In Northeast Kansas.
At 440 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter size hail. This storm was located near eudora, or 7 miles east of lawrence, and moving east at 40 mph.
The severe thunderstorm will be near, linwood around 450 pm cdt. De soto around 455 pm cdt. Bonner springs around 505 pm cdt.
Other locations impacted by this severe thunderstorm include clearview city.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 800 pm cdt Friday evening for northeastern Kansas and northwestern Missouri.
4:37pm — Newschopper 9’s Johnny Rowlands sees wall cloud forming over Lake Pomona.
4:37pm — KMBC’s Jana Corrie reports that lightning may have caused a house fire on Indian Lane in Riverside at Friday afternoon. People inside heard a loud boom and smelled smoke and got out. Did not appear to be heavy damage.
4:13pm – A Flood warning issued for the fishing river near Mosby, MO. Until Sunday morning, or until the warning is cancelled. Moderate flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 18.0 feet. Forecast, the river will rise above flood stage by late afternoon and continue to rise to near 27.5 feet tonight. At 27.0 feet, east mosby road is flooded. All roads into or out of mosby are under water and impassable. Water also reaches the bottom of the northbound u.s. Highway 69 bridge. At 26.0 feet, sixth street is flooded. East mosby road is the only passable road into or out of town. At 25.0 feet, both pony express road north of the city and 3rd street on the south side of mosby are flooded. Sixth street and east mosby road are the only passable roads into or out of town. At 18.0 feet, fields near mosby flood, and a low-water crossing on west road is impassable.
4:11pm — Several roads in north-central Missouri
have been closed because of flash flooding.
The Missouri Department of Transportation reported road closings
Friday in Mercer, Sullivan, Putnam and Adair counties because of
high water after storms moved into the region. Officials said no
damage or injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service also issued flash flood warnings
for several counties in northern Missouri and northeast Kansas. And
tornado warnings were issued for parts of Marion and Ralls counties
in northern Missouri.
4:05pm — Flash Flood warning issued until 10pm for: Northern Jackson County, Northwestern Lafayette County, Southeastern Platte County, Southern Clay County, southern Leavenworth County in Northeast Kansas, Southern Ray County in West Central Missouri, Wyandotte County in Northeast Kansas.
national weather service doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing very heavy rainfall from southern leavenworth county through Kansas city and into northwest lafayette county. Radar estimated that 1.5 to 2 inches of rain had fallen, mainly in southern clay and northern jackson counties. However thunderstorms are moving generally over the same areas and an additional 1.5 to 2 inches of rain is possible over the next one to two hours.
Runoff from this excessive rainfall will cause flash flooding to occur. Some locations that will experience flooding include, basehor, bonner springs, buckner, claycomo, courtney, edwardsville, gladstone, independence, Kansas city, Kansas city Kansas, lexington, liberty, north Kansas city, parkville, richmond, riverside, sugar creek, tonganoxie, westwood, avondale, glenaire, hardin, henrietta, houston lake, Kansas city downtown, lake waukomis, levasy, linwood, Missouri city and northmoor.
4pm — From viewer Louise Fager: I live north of Liberty and we just received 5 inches of rain. The creek has overflowed into the pond. You cannot see the dam and it is going over the road. People cannot get into this subdivision. I have lived here over 25 years and I have never seen this much rain in such a short time.
3:57pm — Things are quiet in Livingston County right now. Earlier they had reports of high water, high winds and hail. Hardest hit area may have been Dawn, Missouri where the dispatcher reports some damage due to rain, hail and wind damage.
Earlier in the day, the bridge south of Chillicothe (on highway 65) going over the Grand River was closed because the rain was coming down so hard that six to ten inches of rain was on the bridge.
3:55pm – KCP&L reporting 375 customers total without power north of the river due to storms. All are between the I-29 and I-35 split, mostly just east of I-29.
3:50pm — Flood warnings issued in Ray, Leavenworth and Platte counties.
3:42pm — Flash Flood Watch in effect until 10 pm. The Flash flood watch includes portions of Kansas and Missouri. In Kansas: Johnson County, Leavenworth, Miami and Wyandotte.
In Missouri: Cass, Chariton, Clay, Cooper, Howard, Jackson, Johnson, Mo, Lafayette, Macon, Pettis, Platte, Randolph And Saline.
A warm, moist and unstable air mass will continue to surge northward through this evening, over a thunderstorm outflow boundary near Interstate 70. Thunderstorms with heavy rainfall will continue to the north of the boundary this afternoon. The boundary will move south, providing for a threat of heavy rainfall late this afternoon and this evening across the rest of the watch area.
Additional heavy rainfall amounts of one to two inches with locally higher amounts are likely, further aggravating or producing flash flooding. The threat of heavy rainfall will end by late this evening as a cold front moves through the region.
3:33pm — Erin Little says heavy rainfall and flooding will be major concerns this afternoon and during evening rush hour. Drivers reminded to avoid water on roads.
Atchison and Platte County has had at least 4 to 5 inches of rain so far.
3:31pm — According to KCP&L, power out to more than 150 customers. North edge is NW Barry Road, south to I-29 highway, west boundary is Bell Street, east boundary is Antioch.
3:23pm — Closed Roads in northeast Kansas: K-74 is closed one mile east of the city of Potter for approximately 2 miles in Atchison County due to flooding. No marked detour.
3:13pm — Flood warning issued for the Little Platte River at Smithville. Until Saturday evening or until the warning is cancelled. At 2:30 pm Friday the stage was 15.3 feet. Minor flooding is forecast. Flood stage is 27.0 feet. Forecast, rise above flood stage by late this afternoon and continue to rise to near 29.3 feet by this evening. The river will fall below flood stage by tonight.
3:11pm — Storm spotter says 10 inches of rain reported near Chillicothe in Livingston County.
3:03pm – Motorist reportedly stranded in high water in Best Buy parking lot on North Oak and North Broadway in KCMO.
3:01pm — Erin Little says there are some scary-looking, low-hanging clouds over the city, but as of right now, those storms aren’t threatening to produce tornadoes — just heavy rain, hail, strong winds and flash flooding.
3pm – Bryan Busby says storm is creating a flash flooding problem.
ROADS CLOSED IN KCMO: Cookingham and Tracy closed due to high water.
114th Street and North Oak Tfky. closed with barricades due to high water.
2:57pm – Roads overflowing with water at 113th and North Virginia in KCMO. Barricades are going up.
KCP&L website said 36 percent of the customers in an area northeast of KCI Airport are without power. So far, that’s 159 customers and counting.
2:53pm – Downed trees reported along North Oak Trafficway in KCMO.
2:45pm — Power lines reported down at 38th and Spruce in KCMO. Crews are responding.
2:35pm — From the National Weather Service:
Severe thunderstorm warning for: Central Carroll County in North Central Missouri, Northeastern Ray County in West Central Missouri until 3 pm.
At 231 pm cdt, national weather service doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail. This storm was located 10 miles southeast of Cowgill, or 13 miles northeast of Richmond, and moving east at 40 mph.
The severe thunderstorm will be near Norborne around 245 pm. Carrollton around 300 pm.
Other locations impacted by this severe thunderstorm include Stet and Bogard.
A tornado watch remains in effect for the warned area. Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. Although not immediately likely, if a tornado is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small interior room.
2:33pm — Storm is moving about 40 mph, producing quarter-sized hail.
2:19pm — Hail and winds of 25mph reported near Platte City.
2:15pm — KMBC-TV briefly lost power because of the storm. Twice.
2pm – KMBC’s Erin Little says a large portion of northern Missouri, including the Kansas City area, is under a Tornado Watch box until 8 p.m.
